Lithuania in 1940 and 1941

The exhibition shows the international situation of Lithuania in the 1930s, and discloses how Moscow, aided by local collaborators, destroyed Lithuania’s independence and the system of government, how communist ideology was implemented, and how people were deported and imprisoned. The maps, photographs, documents and other exhibits displayed bear witness to this.

This was the room of the deputy chief of the prison during the last decades of the existence of the Soviet repressive apparatus. On display in the background behind a glass stand is furniture from the 1940s, original articles and some interior details which have been recreated.
