In 2013–2015, the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania is participating in “Amnesia Gulag in Europe” (AGE), an international project implemented under Action 4 “Active European Remembrance” of the programme “Europe for Citizens”.
The project is taking place from 2 December 2013 to 1 April 2015.
The aim of the project is to fill the memory lapse which has characterised the history of the persecutions and exterminations of millions of lives committed in the Soviet Gulag concentration camps for decades.
The main objective of the project is to familiarise young Europeans with the persecutions by the Stalinist regime in order to develop their social consciousness, sense of responsibility, sense of community, open and critical thinking, and ability to use memory as an instrument of democracy.
The project consists of several stages. In the course of them in different Italian cities the conferences and lectures are carried out along with the photography exhibition “Gulag”. Polish photographer Tomasz Kizny has spent over seventeen years conducting research in Poland, the USSR and Russia and has collected valuable materials evidencing the violence committed in the Gulag. The exhibition features photographs of former Gulag prisoners and officers and materials from both USSR and Russian archives.
