The indices of the victims of the Soviet-era terror
The LGGRTC registers all the names of the Soviet terror victims as well as the names of the resistance members and the names of the Soviet secret services’ employees and their collaborators. Now the LGGRTC database includes some 200,000 names. The LGGRTC issues large format books with all the surnames of Lithuanian citizens deported or imprisoned by the Soviets: the books regarding the Soviet terror victims in 1939–1949 were already published.
The last books include the victims’ surnames of the Soviet repression of 1948 and 1949. The first 1948-related book was issued in 2007 (A to M; it includes 30,000 surnames). The second 1948-related book was issued in 2009 (N to Ž; it includes 23,000 surnames). Some 40,000 Lithuanians were deported by the Soviets during the mass deportation of May 22, 1948. The Soviet authorities titled the deportation of 1948 Vesna (The Spring, in Russian).
Some 20,000 political prisoners, Lithuanian partisans and other Lithuanians perished during the Soviet terror in 1948.
In 1948, the Soviets carried out mass deportations of Lithuanians (they made up some 50 percent of all the persons deported in the Soviet empire on that year): some 40,000 Lithuanians were deported by the Soviets during the mass deportation of May 22, 1948. The Soviet authorities titled the deportation of 1948 Vesna (The Spring, in Russian). The Soviets had some rather cynically poetic code names for mass deportations: the mass deportation of March, 1949 was carried out by the Soviet secret services under its code name Priboy (The Costal Surf, in Russian).
